In this issue, I explore a fundamental shift in travel: from a world where execution was everything to one where ideas and imagination matter most. AI is changing who can build products, how companies compete, and what skills matter. The implications for travel are profound.
Me encanta Mauricio. We’ll definitely think about how we could apply something similar to the "Thank My Driver initiative". Showing appreciation goes a long way.
Thank you for the insights, Mauricio!! Really good! When reading your comments on whether the future will favor big or small companies, I could not help but think about the internet 25 years ago. Back then, we thought it would democratize distribution and that anybody could successfully sell on the Internet. Yet, it led to a lot more power in the hands of fewer companies (at least in the digital tech world I was in). Was it not the same in travel? And, if so, what do you think is different this time? Just curious :-)
Great to see you here Noelia. AI is different because it's transforming who can create and execute ideas. The cost to build and run sophisticated products is dropping dramatically...you noo longer need large tech teams or massive infrastructure. And AI enables truly personalized solutions at a small scale in ways that weren't possible before. But of course, there might be new forms of consolidation, maybe around AI infrastructure or data. But the economics of building travel businesses are fundamentally changing, which might open opportunities for many small players... We'll see! :)
Yeah, I am a newbie still trying to figure out how Substack works. 100% agree that most verticals are going to change dramatically, and opportunities will open up. And yes, there will be a progression to build better and cheaper products more easily, but that also happened when cloud services became available and data is precisely a critical factor that led to consolidation. Time will tell! Will follow you, and we can check back in a few years :-)
